Draft — not yet cleared for use. This drill is designed as deliberate practice and is still in review; treat it as practice, not a graded or certified activity.

Deficit Assumption or Grounded Observation?

Designed as deliberate practice in the core move behind bias-aware support: reading a note or a comment and telling a guess about who someone is apart from something that was actually seen. Read each line as written and make the call.

The categories

  • A guess about who they areA conclusion about a student's or family's character, motives, or values — stated as if it were fact. The kind of guess that quietly shapes how the team treats them.
  • Something actually seenA specific, visible fact — what was seen, heard, counted, or a barrier the writer plainly knows — that any adult would record the same way, leaving the 'why' to the team.
